Counselling for Anxiety

Anxiety is a natural response to stress but when it becomes overwhelming or persistent, it can interfere with daily life, feel debilitating and lead to low mood. I understand how anxiety feels and how it can affect your wellbeing, relationships and overall quality of life. I provide counselling services to which can help you to understand and manage your anxiety so it is no longer dominating your life.

Understanding anxiety

Anxiety can manifest in various ways including excessive worry, racing thoughts, restlessness, difficulty concentrating and physical symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, muscle tension and shortness of breath. It can stem from a variety of causes including past trauma, chronic stress, lifestyle factors or underlying mental health conditions. Whether you are experiencing generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic attacks, social anxiety or just simply feel anxiety is dominating your life more than you would like, I can provide you with support to help you navigate your emotions and experiences.

How anxiety counselling can help

It can be difficult for the people around you to understand the impact of anxiety if they’ve never experienced it themselves. In our counselling sessions, I can help you to explore the causes of your anxiety and why you feel the way you do. Through understanding your thoughts and behaviours and the issues that sit behind them, we can challenge and overcome these negative thought patterns and develop more helpful ways to deal with situations in your life. Together we can ensure you develop healthier coping mechanisms and build your self-awareness and emotional resilience.

Counselling for your unique anxiety

My counselling service is based on you. Often when someone with anxiety gets in touch with me, they have been advised elsewhere that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the best therapeutic method for dealing with anxiety. CBT can indeed be helpful but I personally do not think it is the only counselling solution for treating anxiety and it does not suit everyone. Therefore, my approach draws on a range of counselling methods which includes CBT. I have found this broader approach to be beneficial for clients who are suffering with anxiety as it ensures you receive counselling which is tailored to your unique needs and circumstances. By integrating multiple therapeutic approaches, I can ensure you receive the best possible support in a way that feels most comfortable and effective for you.
