Online counselling using video call is a convenient option and means we can meet wherever you are based. It can give you the flexibility to schedule our appointments around your work and/or home commitments. Some clients feel more at ease speaking with me in their own familiar surroundings rather than meeting in person.
Our online space will be a safe place for you to explore how you are feeling right now, gain clarity about what has brought you to this point and decide what you’d like to do differently moving forwards. I have found that lasting results usually come from making holistic changes. This means we will explore different aspects of your life, not just focus on how you think and feel.
I often find that my work is based on helping people to change their story. Whether it is the story they tell themselves, the story they are portraying to others or the story they’d like to live but just don’t know how to.
Focusing on your needs and goals
From the outset during our assessment and throughout our work together the focus will be on your unique needs and the outcome you would like to achieve.
However long we work together, we will make sure we check in on a regular basis with your goals. This allows us to review our progress, check that the goal(s) is still correct or whether it needs updating and also discuss how we are working together and if there is anything you would like to change.
Meeting you in a safe space
Ensuring our privacy and security whilst speaking online is paramount. I use online platforms that are GDPR compliant and have end-to-end encryption to ensure this is achieved and our conversations will not be recorded. To further ensure your safety, I have completed training in conducting counselling online with the Online Therapy Institute.
Before we speak you will receive login details so you can access the online video call at our assigned time. The online platform will allow you to check your sound and camera settings so you know everything is working correctly before we begin our session.
We will meet for an hour on a weekly or fortnightly basis. I find this consistent pattern of appointments to be the most successful for supporting my clients to make changes in how they think, feel and/or live their lives.
As our sessions are just 60 minutes of your week or fortnight, we will discuss things that you can do to support and look after yourself between appointments. Examples may be to try out an initiative we have discussed, making a small change to your routine or thinking differently about how you approach a situation. We can then check in with your progress in our following session which will help you to reflect on what worked well and what your next steps might be.
