FAQ

Counselling starts with speaking with a counsellor about how you are currently feeling and the things in your life which have made you want to seek some help. Together, you will agree a goal that you would like to work on during your appointments.

Once this is agreed, you will meet with your counsellor on a regular basis. In my practice, I see new clients on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

During your appointments, you and your counsellor will discuss different aspects of how you are thinking, feeling and behaving and explore some of the reasons behind this. They provide support so you can figure out what you would like to differently in the future and put in place changes to achieve this.

Because you will only meet with your counsellor for an hour once a week/fortnight, it is likely that you may also have initiatives to work on or to try out between your appointments. These initiatives mean you can test things out and then discuss how effective they have been with when you next meet.

Counselling can be both short-term or long-term. You should expect to have regular reviews to discuss your progress and if any changes in your working relationship with your counsellor would be helpful. The two of you will also work together to ensure you there is a safe ending when you are ready for your appointments to end.

I charge £50 per one hour session.

Payment can be made via bank transfer. I will provide you with my bank details once we set a time for our first session. Payment for each appointment needs to be made 24 hours before we meet.

Our initial consultation via telephone is free of charge and you should allow 30 minutes. We will chat about why you are thinking about counselling, what you would like to achieve and you can ask me any questions about my service and how we will work together.

This will depend on your individual circumstances and what you would like to achieve during your counselling. I work with some clients on a short term basis and with others over an extended period depending on their needs and preferences. Regular reviews will be important so we can track your progress, reflect on how we are working together and discuss how beneficial our sessions are for you. A minimum of 6-12 sessions is suggested and I am very happy to discuss this further if you would like to find more.

We will arrange a regular time slot for our weekly or fortnightly appointment. This ensures you have an exclusively reserved space to meet with me. If you need to change or cancel a session, you can do so by giving me 24 hours’ notice. If you cancel a session, with less that 24 hours’ notice you will be charged in full for that appointment.

I find working with Karen great fun – she brings humour and intelligence to our sessions and I always look forward to speaking with her.
