FAQ
What does counselling involve?
I provide a warm, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about how you are feeling and explore what you’d like to change. During our appointments we’ll look at different aspects of your day to day life, understand the root causes of what you’re experiencing and work out how to make changes that last.
We meet weekly or fortnightly and I can work with you on a short or long term basis depending on your needs.
How much do you charge?
I charge £55 per one hour session. Your initial phone consultation is free of charge.
How do I pay you?
Payment is by bank transfer. I’ll send you my bank details once we’ve arranged your first session. Payment for each appointment is due 24 hours before we meet.
Do you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes, before we meet for the first time we’ll have a free phone conversation, for up to 30 minutes. It’s a chance for you to tell me what’s brought you to counselling, ask any questions you have and get a sense of whether we’d be a good fit. There’s no obligation to book a session afterwards.
How many appointments will I need?
This depends on your individual circumstances and what you’re hoping to achieve. Some people work with me short term, others over a longer period. A minimum of 6 to 12 sessions is a reasonable guide and we’ll review regularly as we go.
What happens if I need to cancel or change the time of an appointment?
We’ll arrange a regular weekly or fortnightly time slot reserved just for you. If you need to cancel or rearrange, please give me at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged in full.
What areas do you specialise in?
I specialise in working with people who have anxiety, low self-esteem, perfectionism, disordered eating and body image issues. Many of my clients are quietly ambitious but feel stuck despite their capability. These issues rarely exist in isolation and understanding how they connect and where they come from is often where the most meaningful work begins.
Are you the right counsellor for me?
You’re likely to find working with me valuable if you’re frustrated that despite being capable and self-aware, you are stuck in the same patterns. If you want to understand why this is happening and make lasting changes that finally help you move forwards. If you appreciate warmth and humour alongside depth. Or if you are experiencing difficulties at work and suspect you might be burnt out.
I find working with Karen great fun – she brings humour and intelligence to our sessions and I always look forward to speaking with her.
