How we work together
My role isn't to fix anything. Instead I walk alongside you, providing support and encouragement as you take the next steps forward in your life story.
You can expect warmth, gentle challenge and appropriate humour. A space where anything you bring will be welcome, including the things you've never said out loud before. I want you to feel fully supported to have difficult conversations and eager to come back for each appointment.
The work isn't just about talking. I believe your mind, your body and your lifestyle are all connected – you can't separate how you feel inside from how you live, move, eat or present yourself to the world. So my approach is holistic. We look at the whole picture.
Between sessions I'll often suggest small practical initiatives. Not homework in the traditional sense, but things that keep the work alive and build momentum. A small change in approach, a mindful activity, something that helps you take better care of yourself. We'll find things that feel realistic and comfortable for you, celebrate when things go well and be kind to yourself when they don't.
I draw on a range of counselling techniques and tailor my approach to your needs. For eating disorders I draw on the model developed by the National Centre for Eating Disorders. I also use creative Gestalt techniques – sketching, visualisation, working with the body – when they're helpful.
The goal is lasting change. Not simply managing how you feel but understanding what's driving it, addressing the root causes and writing a new chapter.
How I got here
I came to counselling after a long career in marketing, communications and career coaching – and after 25 years of doing my own personal development work. I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and an MSc in Psychology, and I've been working as a career coach since 2008.
What I bring to this work is breadth. I've worked across very different industries and environments. I have my own lived experience of the issues I work with. I have a long-standing interest in health, wellbeing, nutrition and the connection between how we feel physically and mentally. And I have a longstanding interest in clothes, style and the psychology of appearance — how we present ourselves to the world and what that says about the story we're telling.
I didn't come to counselling through a single dramatic moment. It was more a considered choice. One that drew on everything I'd experienced and learned, and felt like the natural next chapter.
