Counselling for Eating Disorders and Obesity

Counselling for eating disorders and obesity offers specialist support for those struggling with issues with food, weight and body image concerns. Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and orthorexia as well as disordered eating patterns or obesity are complex and deeply personal struggles that affect both mental and physical health. However, with the right professional support, recovery is possible – and you can create a healthier, and more compassionate relationship with yourself, and with food.

My Approach to Eating Disorder and Obesity Counselling

My approach to eating disorder and obesity counselling is grounded in the National Centre for Eating Disorders (NCFED) Master Practitioner Programme, a leading qualification in the field that integrates the latest research, therapeutic techniques and a person-centred approach to treatment. I will draw on this comprehensive training in addition to my own lived experience of an eating disorder and my skills as a counsellor to provide you with specialised support specialised eating disorder counselling and support for obesity based on your individual needs.

Therapy Tailored to Your Personal Eating Issues

Every person’s experience with disordered eating is unique. Our sessions together will be tailored to address your specific struggles, helping you understand the root causes of your relationship with food and body image. Through providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment, my aim is to empower you to take meaningful steps toward recovery with therapy for your eating disorder, obesity or disordered eating patterns.

Evidence-Based Techniques for Recovery

Schema therapy & trauma-informed care – Addressing deeper emotional wounds that may contribute to disordered eating. For example, I often find that my work is based on helping people to change their story. Whether it’s the story they tell themselves, the one they portray to others or the one they’d like to live.

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) – A structured approach to challenge negative thought patterns and behaviours related to food and body image.

Nutritional psychoeducation – Helping you develop a balanced and mindful approach to food without fear or guilt.

Mindfulness and self-compassion strategies – Supporting emotional regulation and self-acceptance.

Motivational enhancement therapy – Strengthening your commitment to recovery by exploring personal values and goals.
